Seeing as how my last post was answered and I learned a lot, I thought I would test my luck and ask another question….
Recently learned a little bit about wet flies and streamers, which I typically don’t fish with…..
Should I use split shot and strike indicators for both?
I haven’t really used any weight with streamers, but I have had strike indicators….

PS: I fish mostly in Wisconsin and Minnesota…..

    Thanks in advance!

wet flies are to be fished on the swing.

As far as streamers go there are many effective methods to use. I have fished them dead drifted under an indicator with success, but it is kind of boring. I really like the jerk-strip-retrieve method which can be very visual and deadly at times. It is usually fished on a full sink or a sink tip line using unweighted streamers.

In shallower water I fish streamers with a floating line, sometimes with a split shot.

The only time I’d use and indicator with a streamer is if I were dead-drifting.

Don’t overlook fishing classic wet flies as a standard nymph.

    Todd,

If you are serious about traditional Wet Fly fishing, then I commend to you to read: Wet Flies by Dave Hughes (1995) and all of Slyvester Nemes books on Soft Hackles.  Follow those guys advice and you’ll catch fish on Wet Flies.

I fish a lot of heavily weighted streamers.
I fish them with a floating line, a long leader, tied on with a loop knot, and use split shot in this order: 2bb –> 1 3/0 –> 2 3/0 (increasing size as needed)

I don’t normally dead drift them but do so every now and then. I will sometimes tie on a nymph dropper where legal.
