I messed with this a bit more last night.

    Hair crimper, huh?

Did 380 seem to be about the magic number or do you think 400-450 would be better?

I bumped it up to 400 and got a super seamless weld but it also reacted a lot faster than I was expecting (like 10 seconds was enough).

Ok so maybe it was a hair straightener, not a crimper.

Guys what breaking strain are you achieving with your loops mine are breaking around 6.5 – 7 kg which I guess is a fair bit of pull. Still using the Bic and White heat shrink sleeve (I haven’t found any Clear in Oz) I’ve been thinking of using my heat gun.

I’ve purchased shrink tubing at both Lowe’s and Home Depot in the ‘lectrical section. I also thought about using a heat gun. I suppose an alcohol lamp or candle would give a more concentrated heat source though.

Get a hair straightener from Wal-mart and use that.

Anyone testing to failure?? Mine thus far have been on 4wt lines so I imagine they’re more than strong enough for that

260 degrees on the Heat Gun is working brilliant, all my loops are holding up well, I’m testing them to failure, however the line is breaking above the loop (beyond any part I’m touching) consistently now
