I started a new thread here, but Zach may find an idea or two for his bugger beast.
Some time ago, Davy Wotton showed me his Coleman 28 qt. icebox he uses for a tackle box. He glues a piece of styro in the lid for a fly drier.
I used one and just threw my usual fly boxes and gear in and wet flies loose to dry. Works as good in a rain storm as anything to keep your stuff relatively dry in a boat. I wore that box out (lid broke off). $10 box, now $12 with falling prices at Walmart :-).
This time I picked up a softsided plano tackle bag ($17) that just fits inside the ice chest. Still room for a couple of normal fly boxes. All my streamers, indicators, other supplies go in the four plano boxes. Room in bag’s side pockets for tippet spools, hemos, and pliers. I found a floral styro in the craft department that was just the right size for the lid (I like it better than I thought I would)–a little goop glue and it was good to go. Just make sure you cure the glue first outside before closing the lid or the fumes may eat away at your tackle inside the box.
