I decided that this is the year to get back to the lake fishing and have two trips planned to go warm water fishing for panfish and bass in the next month. My bass box is about complete but I would appreciate any thoughts on “go-to” flies that you use on your lakes for large mouth bass (or any good links to read on the topic).

I’ve always had good luck catching crappie on a white Crazy Charlie. They are very easy to tie if you haven’t tried yet. I tie them on stainless hooks so I can also use them in the salt.

Two weeks ago while chasing carp, a buddy and I found some nice looking structure and gave it a go for LMB. I was throwing an olive “slumpbuster,” one of John Barr’s patterns. The bass could not get enough of it. I also keep it in white and chart., but olive was the color for that day. My buddy was producing some mid-size fish on clousers tied on a Gama. SC-15 with olive and white kiptail. I really do not even use bucktail for clousers anymore, unless I need some longer pieces for stripers. Give the kiptail (calf) a try; I think you will like them quite a bit.
