KEH.com has a Like New D200 for $1399. I’ll watch on Sportsshooter for you and see if one pops up on there over the next couple of days.John

The Itinerant AnglerThat’s a good deal. I am about 3 weeks out from my check on this one unfortunately or I’d snap those up today.

The Itinerant Angler20″ iMac with 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor(s) and 2 GB of RAM; plus I upgraded the video memory to 256MB onboard.

noneMemberWell, I’m sure the iMac will keep you company for quite some time.
Adding some extra RAM is a smart thing to do. Especially if you consider running several programs at once. I always have about 4-5 programs running at once. The jump from 15 inch screen to a 20 inch TFT will be mindblowing! But it gets used to VERY quickly though! Although the 24 inch iMac is H U G E, I think I’ll apprecaite the extra screen real estate. Especially all those IMs like Proteus (this nifty prg handles MSN, ICQ, Yahoo all at once!), Skype etc it’s nice to have them in view and not get covered by windows (no not Windows!) / other programs.

MemberZach,
Especially with camera equipment, it’s a good idea to check online retailers at http://www.resellerratings.com. There are a lot of really shady operators in this particular segment, so buyer beware.
Here’s the Reseller Ratings page for Express Cameras from you link above:

MemberWell. if you enjoyed that, here’s a couple of more links that might pique your interest:
http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,107855-page,1/article.html
http://donwiss.com/pictures/BrooklynStores/
The first link is an investigative piece PC World did on these camera stores. The second is photos of the locations of a good many of the internet camera/electronics dealers. You’ll see that, while some of them have legit storefronts, the vast majority are mail drops, private homes, or non-descript doorways and warehouses. You’ll also notice that many are doing business under several different names, making it more difficult for authorities to put them completely out of business.

Joel ThompsonMemberZach, how do you feel about ebay for buying a camera? I am in the market for a digital slr and I have noticed what appear to be some sweet deals on cameras. I always worry a little buying electronic items this way though. Just curious as to what you think.

Membermoosedog,
hope you and Zach don’t mind me replying to your question about ebay.

Joel ThompsonMemberThanks John! One of the cameras I have been giving a good hard look is the Canon Rebel XTI. Seems like a pretty sweet camera for the price. Any thoughts on this camera?

Membermoosedog,
The Canon XTi has a lot of good things going for it, aside from the 10mp image size. It’s light weight and relatively inexpensive compared to the Pro-sumer cameras like the 30D and the D200.

Joel ThompsonMemberJohn I appreciate your insight on the XTI. It is very helpful. I would be taking a lot of still life and fishing pictures so this might be a good camera for me to start with. Thanks again John!

MemberHey Zach.
Have you checked out B&H Photo out of NY City?http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=getpage.jsp&A=getpage&Q=SuperStore.jsp
I have bought a number of Canon lenses, filters etc. They have a great selection of Nikons as well.
Over the years, my experiences with this company have been good.
Just a thought.
Good luck.
JPquote author=ZachMatthews ]Hey guys –
I am going to purchase a D200 body in the next three weeks, hopefully used. My editor has decided its cheaper to throw me a bone and give me enough to buy this camera so he can quit paying other people for the backdrop images to my stories (the D70 won’t go two pages). My next photo-heavy feature will run in the next issue, from my trip to Brazil, and as you’ll see, we had to use an image of less than two pages and add black space, which isn’t ideal.
So, I am in the market. Can anyone point me to a good deal on a used or refurbished D200 body or sell me one they aren’t using?
Thanks,
Zach[/quote]Dec 22, 2006 at 3:17 am #8789mark s
