I have found on local lakes several areas in relativly shallow water say less than 10ft, that regularly hold walleye throughout the spring and summer. I am rigging up for this with an 8wt full sinking line and a sink tip, wire leader, and startin to tie.
Has anyone had any experience fly fishing for walleye? Patterns, techniques, eqipment?
;)Thanks
Walleye will hit just about any pattern resembling a Leech or Minnow if you can get the fly in front of them. My only experience with them shallow water has been in the Rainy River in International Falls, MN. You catch Walleye there on the same Woolly Bugger and Clouser patterns used for Smallmouth.
I’ve caught some in my lake on clousers and other streamer patterns I’ve messed around with. Just stick with baitfish imitations and you should be fine. If you want to try at night I would have some flies with glowing fibers in them. They should work well.
