MemberD.A.,
While living in London, I began to follow rugby quite often; I even worked out with a local team. They seemed to enjoy my “American tackles.” We would go to the pub and watch matches, especially the Six Nations, if I recall correctly. I loved it, but when I got back home, Texas, it completely fell off the radar, and I have almost 400 channels! As you are obviously better acquainted with the sport, do we (U.S.A.) even have a team that can compete w/ the Irish, Kiwis, Aussies, etc.?

MemberDavid, notice the hat? Â That’s what Wallabies have to do with fishing. I got that hat in Australia and it has become my “good-luck” hat. Â So for me, it has everything to do with fishing. Â

David AndersonMemberDusty. the Americans are not up there in the rugby, though they have a team for the world cup.
They need to spend some money on the team and pull some players away from the NFL, no doubt if they did they could put some bug boys up the front of the pack.. 😉Right now South Africa are #1, New Zealand 2 and Australia #3 in the world rankings..
England, Ireland, Wales, France and Argentina all field good teams as well, the English won the world cup before this last one in a great game that went into two overtimes.
Neal, that’s an awesome good luck hat.. 😉
Do people ask you what it is ??

Simon ChuMemberIf you’ve never seen rugby, its a bit of a religion in NZ, Sth Africa and some parts of Australia.
The guys don’t wear pads (until recently) and rucking is when a guy is lying on the ball and you can use your sprigs (spikes?) on his body to get him out of the way. This clip is not great quality but might give you an idea as to the physicality of it.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=BjonVhdvojQThe Haka is a traditional war challenge the All Blacks, New Zealand’s national team perform before each game.
This is the traditional one played in my home town. The English are in red, looking nervous

The only thing Rugby has to do with fishing is that if you go into ANY NZ pub (bar) and can talk rugby, you’ll be welcome…. as long you’re not an Australian.. ::) :-X 😉 ;D

MemberYea go the Wallabees, bu Geez DA , you are getting cocky pretty fast , remember there are 3 more Bleidsloe Cup games to go this year, as exciting as it was to thump the Kiwi’s , I wouldn’t be counting anything yet let alone my green & Gold Chickens.
I spoke with some dour southlanders today and the silence re the rugby was deafening…..one of them was even talking Netball…… ::)Jul 28, 2008 at 9:29 am #27663
Mike McKeownMemberAhh, but both the Wallabie’s and the Kiwi’s have to come here (South Africa)for a game or 2… let’s see the Ausie smiling when they get hammered by the Bok’s…
Great game though, really did well to hold the All-Blacks in the second half…
Did you enjoy watching us beat them at the House of Payne(sp)???

D. Âand South Africans…
You do have a team… not the best, not the worst…
interesting bit of trivia is that the USA are the current Olympic Rugby Champions… yes it is true… the last time Rugby was played as an Olympic sport was in 1924, and the USA won…

An amazing game !
The Kiwi’s are never easy there… 😉I’m a little disappointed in the Bok’s #7 (can’t even come close to spelling his name) hit on Mortlock – very un-sporting and very poor form..
He should be banned for a season for trying so hard to hurt an opposition player in that way.I don’t think he does his own team any favors either..
