    a. debarb your hooks
    b. when you get a clouser through your arm that you didn’t debarb, use that as a lesson to debarb all hooks in the future

I’ve read about this method for years and seen it illustrated but never demonstrated. I now have a $100 example. I most likely could not have gotten it out myself as it was in my arm.

    Was the cost the Doc?
Unfortunately I’ve had that done to me several times this season and thankfully it does work. The key is not to pull the nylon slowly nor jerk. A swift pull… ouch but out… normally. :'(
A good friend even did it to a guy with a fly in his ear.
Yep I debarb now, particularly saltwater flies. Not for the fish but for me

In a couple of years I’d gladly come on all your trips w/ you Ron and remove all you flies for “free” in exchange for room, board, and guide fees.

How did you get a fly in your arm right there? An unlikely spot.

i was fishing an orvis 8′ full flex superfine rod
casting the big streamer with 3 3/0 split shot into a bend –> deep hole on the snake in colorado.

i had trees behind me on either side

i chucked the line up and behind me to avoid the willows and the trees and then double hauled the thing forward. the entire setup was just unbalanced and awkward.

i actually saw it go in from the corner of my eye.

here is the other arm from 2001, 1/0 clouser.
