MemberDue to technical difficulties I have spent the last week without home internet access. There are no curse words left after dealing with the cable company. It is amazing (shocking really) how dependent we can become on the internet.
I have received some wonderful feedback on the Fly Art Studio site from professional photographers and marketing friends. This has led to a rethinking of the goals of the site. Mainly, the general consensus is that there is definite interest in this topic. With this in mind, I have decided to broaden the scope a bit and act more as a “host”, as it were. Being an amateur photographer (and a poor writer) it is better to offer topics of interest and host a discussion instead of posting “how I did it” tutorials. Kind of like podcasts, the best ones generally feature someone other than the host. But a good host knows what others want to learn and can orchestrate that in a fun and entertaining way. Thus, in the future, each topic will incorporate pictures from myself or others intertwined with a guest professional or advanced amateur photographer offering his/her comments.
If any of you are interested in participating please let me know.
Also, please let me know what you think of the recent tutorial on white balance and ISO http://flyartstudio.com/wordpress/?p=312. Is it clear or utterly confusing? Did I help or hinder the learning of others? Do I need to add or delete anything? Thanks in advance.
Finally, the latest Art-Fly slideshow is posted at http://www.flyartstudio.com. The images are examples of me stretching the wings a bit after reading more on light theory.

You’re right about our dependency on Internet — glad to hear that you’re getting great response about Fly Art Studio — thanks again for this great site — for a wannabe photographer like myself it’s been very useful — and Neal you’re a good writer — very easy to follow —Mar 9, 2009 at 6:48 am #66859

MemberLOL, that shot was super hard to get for an overweight middle aged guy like me – it is actually a self portrait and that is my right arm with the fly while the left arm depressed the timer release on the camera. I am not a flexible person so my back actually hurt that evening and I needed to stretch.
Here is my latest Art-Fly slideshow with more pictures http://homepage.mac.com/nealpod/Sites/artflymarch2009/index.html
edit: that is my left arm with the fly.

The Itinerant AnglerI have admired this picture for a long time (it has a lot of nuances about a complicated dude).

MemberZach, it will take a full week to recover from the shock of seeing a picture of Clinton on the same post as my beloved self portrait :-/
I am working on incorporating portraits into my fly art and believe that I am about a month or two away from getting respectable shots with my new softbox and umbrella setup. Sooooooo much more to learn.

Ben CochranMemberZach, I wish that I could remember the photographers name that took that shot. I have seen the original and he actually shot that in a parlor area, if memory serves me correctly; 2 umbrellas on the side and one softbox overhead. The background has been removed and the new one is PSed in. The photographer actually asked Bill to show some love and snapped this great shot after saying it lol. The hue, along with the background, were all done in post. Hope that helps some.
Also, I remember seeing a B&W transition, that he did, and actually like the B&W even better. Just noticed another thing too: Even the stool is PSed in, Bill was actually sitting in a chair, during the 15 minute session.

MemberThe photographer was Platon. http://www.mediabistro.com/articles/cache/a1169.asp
It is an impressive shot. I like the way it makes the viewer ask questions and have reactions on many levels.
The photographer’s request — “Mr. President, can you show me the love?”
