    Has anyone used one of these to do any tying photography, and if so how did it work?

    Light tents work great. I use three lights on stands (sides and top). My camera has software that allows me to control the exposure from my computer and view the results full size. I keep adjusting lights/exposure till I like what I get. Seeing it full size really helps.
