MemberZach,
I noticed you tweated earlier this week that T&T had laid off all their employees.

The Itinerant AnglerBrian –
At this point I have just heard what amount to rumors, but they’re from credible sources in the industry.

MemberZach,
Mostly a question of curiousity as I’ve seen some postings on other boards where folks are trying to find out about warranty work and not having emails or phone calls returned (which would make sense if the staff was either let or in the proces of being let go).
Having been through 2 layoffs in just over a decade of full-time work I completely sympathize with the folks at T&T.

The Itinerant AnglerWell, and of course, if the company is no longer in business, then there will be no warranty repairs on T&T rods.

MemberZack’s absolutely correct.
On the other hand though, if someone was to buy the T&T name, it would most likely be foolish in the long run not to honor existing warranties. Yes, it may cost them a bundle to honor them, but they would be maintaining tremendous good will among existing T&T customers, helping to maintain a customer base with potential repeat business.
What good is the T&T name if all former T&T customers couldn’t get warranty work? It would be an uphill battle trying to re-establish the “new” T&T name.

MemberThat is a shame. I think it is just poor marketing. Their products are just as good as the others in the high end market. I think they have had financial problems before.

noneMember‘poor’ marketing is a choice, probably based on not wanting to spend money on it but rather on their product development and service.
Too bad if T&T is gone… Their bamboo fly rods are legendary. Will it end up like Leonard, Payne, etc.?

The Itinerant AnglerI think it was more than marketing guys.

MemberI know I haven’t seen their rods in any of the major shops in the SE region, and that’s their home region (they’re in Maryland).
Hi Zach,
I was at the Bear’s Den Fly Fishing show (a local fly shop holds it) recently and T&T had a booth there. I picked up one of their brochures and the address on the back was Greenfield, Massachusetts, the same as listed on their web site. Have they recently moved?Mar 1, 2010 at 5:03 pm #42134
noneMemberAny more news on T&T? Their site is still up and running.

noneMemberIsn’t having a brand in ones fly shop also based on marketing?
If the customers don’t ask for them because they don’t see these rods in the magazines etc. it won’t be stocked in the shop?Mar 1, 2010 at 6:47 pm #42136Zach Matthews
The Itinerant AnglerCorrection: I’m told they are now in Massachusetts, but were founded in Maryland.

The Itinerant AnglerGuys –
I called T&T myself to get to the bottom of this and according to their phone operator, they had simply gone through what I guess would be termed a temporary layoff due to the snowstorms up in the Northeast.

noneMemberWell, that’s a relief.
Thanks Zach!Mar 1, 2010 at 11:43 pm #42139dave nyberg
