Thought I’d see if I could get some thoughts on this. I seem to be enjoying doing a relatively simple lighting set up on my fly photos. Just a single light source, trying to make i look natural. For this one I shot a no frills, more traditional style wet fly. Not sure what the pattern is or what it represents, but it has an interesting look to it. Black body, white wing and hackle.

(I’ve noticed firefox displays the images a little brighter and a little less saturated since the photo is in AdobeRGB color space)

I like the emotion, it’s cool! I like all of your fly shots though

Love the Depth of field and the texture – like Bens shot it’s different as well.

A picture is thousand words that takes less than a second while a thousand words is a picture that takes a month.

Great stuff, I really like the shot! It has a very delicate feel. The softness of the hackle in contrast to the silhouette is very nice! The only thing I find distracting is that the angle and strength of the shadow seems to almost form a ‘loop’ with the barb of the fly… but thats just me looking for something to critique in the context of the message board here.

I want to hang this one on my wall. Another great shot, I love the different directions you take us when shooting flies. (and i just love spiders , wets and soft hackles so this is my favorite one yet.)
