TR: Sweden

Hey everyone,
I was just lucky enough to get two days on the water in the middle of sweden…near a town called Enviken.  Booked a two day license on some private water through a site (http://www.flyfisher.nu).  caveat: i am a worse photographer than an angler, so please forgive my skills….i am closer to ozzy osborne on camera than neal osborn

i knew the fishing was going to be different than my midwestern streams, and really, no nymphing at all here: all top water with small midges and tiny flies – stuff i am not used to.

Through the owner, a great dude named Jonas, he set me up on about 7 km of private water, on a river called Lungsjöån.  

First day was really tough and I was unprepared rig-wise. I had my three wt (7’7) which really wasn’t enough….i had the water essentially to myself (except for a bit when Jonas and his father came out). the water itself was very still for the most part, but the terrain getting in was kind of dangerous…very “boggy” with deep mud holes.  these two photos show the first path and then some of the water:

Fished hard for about 9 hours the first day, and i had three hard hook ups..but, again, my tackle (and my skill apparently) was not strong enough..i had older 6x tippet on (as that was all i had with me) and all three rainbows broke me off late.  Jonas, the owner, was able to hook and land a nice, smaller rainbow. he let me take a photo as i was scared at that point i might not touch any fish myself!

I left that night after having a great day resigned to figuring out a way to land fish the next day….on my way out, i made these two friends right at my car:

the second day, i switched rods to my 8’5 five weight and it was much better. hooked a few nice rainbows and landed these two beauties….great feeling.  both took small (20) griffith’s gnat.  
the first one was one of those casts you make where it just goes great: about 25 feet to a rock where i saw her swelling….she took it on first cast and battled hard….released (as they both were) safely…

second fish took it on a downward swing and it was awesome to see….

all in all, blessed both days with beautiful scenery and was happy to touch these fish.
