Headed to a neat little pike lake this summer and need some advice. Last time I fished it….I accidently left my wire bite tippet behind. I caught plenty without….but lost several flies to their sharp teef. I caught one fish that still had one of my flies in his mouth.

Anyhow…..I don’t particularly want to use wire….can I substitute about 24″ of flourocarbon as a tippet? Will 20 lb test be sufficient?

Brad? Anyone? How do you guys rig a tippet for these toofy critters?

    Thanks.

I use 60 fluoro most of the time.  No bite offs yet.

Every once in a while I’ll go down to a 40 but I dont like going much below that.  And after every fish you should probably take a look to make sure they didnt leave you with a frayed line.

20lb will give probably give you problems.

I typically use a loop to loop connection from my bite tippet to my leader.
