So I was posses by an impressive natural light show the other eveningand after some very cursory post production came up with this. Any suggestions for improvement would be appreciated.

IMHO . . . no improvement is necessary.

John, That is a great photo, I have tried a few times to get some shots like that, but never get the right place right time…and if I do, my awestruck expression prevents me from clicking the shutter…

    great shot man.

    Colin,
That’s the cool thing about 30sec exposures.
I could hit the shutter and then stand back and still have the awestruck look on my face.
I was a little frustrated because the really cool strikes with long cloud to cloud and cloud to ground seemed to stop exactly when I got my tripod set up and the camera mounted.

    Neal,
Thanks. You know what the say about blind squirrels and acorns though.

Shooting lightning is definitely a pain in the butt. Every time I’ve even succeeded in getting lightning in the frame it’s always faint and in the corner of the frame or mostly running off an edge. . . perhaps if I lived in a more open landscape allowing wider angles I would have better luck.
