MemberDang, you guys are too quick for me.
I’m still trying to digest exactly what went down in that Lefty Kreh, interview. The hippie comment was hilarious (and my hair is probablly longer than Jill’s right now and my Chacos are definitely smelling worse than a john). Then he goes to “I have no favorite group or song” and having biological warfare agents cultivated from his body. It’s like a hipper, fly fishing, Dick Cheney or something. Crazy.

MemberZach,
First things first – this is their magazine and they can run and build it however the hell they want.

MemberThis mag targets the dudes that would leave their wife on the delivery room table because their buddy called and said the Salmon Flies are popping on the Hank.
But see, you aren’t REALLY going to do that when the chips are down any more than the guys who read the printed magazines but don’t actually fish a lot are ever going to actually go
Carter………You have no clue who you are talking to, do you?

The Itinerant AnglerHey Richie –
Easy man, no one’s knocking the commitment of these guys or even the quality of the content – fundamentally the quality is excellent, there are just some decisions they’ve made so far which could easily break the other way and might make a better magazine.

MemberNo, actually I remembered something from way back about fishing and your divorce, and god knows my fishing has pissed off plenty of women. Still I’d bet that had you stayed married you’d not have left her on the delivery table, but maybe you would have I dunno.
One of my buddies brought a pair of Chacos back to the shop once to get sent back to be warrantied but they wound up calling him back and just giving him a new pair off the shelf because when the rep came by they smelled so bad he didn’t even want to touch them.

The Itinerant AnglerWell, as a newbie, city-dwelling tool, I think I speak for all of us when I say, no offense, man!
Hahahahah.

At my house, the salmon fly hatch is a sacred event.

Memberuhhhh, I just thought it was a funny story, not really sure how we are supposed to compare stinky Chacos over the internet. Not sure if I want to really but I can asure you they smell like shit and the beard hasn’t been trimed in four months though.
Sep 5, 2007 at 8:44 pm #19067Mark Landerman
MemberChaco’s always smell like shit…….that black goo that forms could be used as a replacement for stink bait.
(now that’s an idea………I am going to place my carp flies and my chacos in azip-lock bag)..

Memberthe crazy thing is that I bet that would really work.

MemberIf any of you steal my idea and write an article about it, I want credit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😮

MemberNo offense taken Zach. I’m home all dusty and curmodgeony due to feeling sick from inhaling sanding compound and sheetrock spackle for the last few days. That’s why you couldn’t get me, and why I came off as angry.
Truth be told, I think these guys have what it takes. I too love The Drake, and yes there’s an entire market that wouldn’t like either of these mags, but then again.. it’s their magazine.
By the way.. I hope you were jamming to TIF issue#2’s music selection. Definitely had me mellowed out while at work instead of listening to muzak all day.

MemberI don’t think you’ve got to worry about that much, a carp is still something I’ve not yet caught and It’s likely not going to happen soon what with all the redfish around me.

MemberI have to say that I am in totally in agreement with Zach on this one.

MemberHey Gary, as someone who got out of college right before the big Wikipedia boom I can only imagine the craziness that comes across your desks nowadays.

MemberGood discussion guys.

MemberOut of curiousity (and this IS a real question) – Would you rather read an article written by someone passionate about a company and who believes in the message and spirit of said company in a magazine, or written by someone who’s writing from a 3rd person perspective looking at it from the outside?
I just reread some of these responses and some of you seem to be under the impression that sponsors are the ones reviewing gear and writing all the stories.
The TIF boys do the gear reviews.

MemberAnybody seen the new online version of Wild On The Fly?
Being sorta in the business (online editor for Fish and Fly) I’ve been watching the evolution of the e-zine and am certain that the Wild On The Fly online version will be a cross between This is Fly and static online magazines –
I may actually pay the price of admission to see what those guys out west have going –
By the way, our editors trashed some of our advertisers products – so there are some folks doing it (needless to say they are no longer advertisers)
You will see less and less print and more and more online – with the number of print issues shrinking since online can be more timely and more cost efficient – plus you can integrate video, which is where it is all going – I’ve seen several projects that utilize fully media integrated articles – written word, photography, sound and video –
The future is bright (and cheap for readers) –
