You ‘Austrians’ and your funny accents.

Personally, I prefer the term “tosser” as much more explicit in terms of what you are calling the person.

    Bugger – Pajero Vs. Skippy.

    How is Skippy?!

Errr, he’s in a better place now.

You ‘Austrians’ and your funny accents.  I presume you hit a kangaroo, David?

Yep it was a fairly large grey kangaroo, and lucky for us it wasn’t one of the big red bastards.. 😉

I suppose it’s still better than collecting an Elk or a moose..

How big do red kangaroos versus gray kangaroos get, David?

    #38503

The red’s get very big, as tall as a man, but a grey about 4 feet tall would be average..

Roo is good eating, though it’s still not common here.
I really like it in curry.

Not sure about the leather, you don’t see it much- might be a bit of cultural cringe in there or something..

No Simon, they don’t expect them, and generally charge you a higher premium to cover the extra cost of accessories.. >:(

That said, the insurance guy told me he doesn’t see all that many roo strikes come through in claims.
It’s the first one I’ve hit in my 25 years of driving here and I do a lot of miles, so maybe it’s not all that common to hit them ?

I’m reluctant to get a big heavy steel bar because it cuts into fuel consumption and performance due to the weight, I would also have to change the front suspension.
They get good reviews for saving damage to the truck.
Alloy bars weight less, but almost always get damaged on a hit and cost a lot more.
There’s plastic bars now as well, and they’re a lot tougher than alloy and weigh even less and cost less, but you read mixed reviews of their effectiveness.
I noticed the country area police here are using them more and more (on the same model 4×4) so maybe they’re worth a look.

Another idea is to upgrade the headlights and try to avoid hitting wildlife in the first place.
Our Volvo has HID lights and they’re MUCH better than what’s on the Pajero..

    David –

Kangaroo leather makes wonderful baseball gloves; I had one as a kid – a catcher’s mitt.

A popular tourist leather item here made of leather is a Kangaroo clacker sack made into

    Smartass…. ;D

I’m getting a steel buillbar as soon as I can.

Although not a fan of the weight and increase in fuel use, I can’t afford to miss out on work if I have another hit and end up off the road.
