Nice project, you can never have enough midges…unless you are fishing dries!

You have convinced me of the merit of the midge however…I need to start replacing some of my old faithful zebra midges.  Maybe I’ll get the vise out today…its cold/snowy/rainy.

Send me some of that rib material and I’ll let you know my impressions.

    Cameron,

Do you have Midge Magic by Don Holbrook? What a great resource. One of the tricks I’ve taken from it is to tie different colored under bodies using tinsels and threads and overwrap with clear vinyl rib.

Its been said before, use different color of Krystal flash or tinsel and then clear over them. I love midges. I use small stretch tubing for some nice looking stuff too!

Yeah…it is nice to have the solid rib colors, but really all you need is the clear.

Hey Poudre, did you find a particular midge worked especially well for you when you were at the Big Horn a couple of weeks ago? I am heading there this week for four days and am just looking to have an edge over my buddies!

Well…not only was the fellow late…but upon arrival to the river he blew through about two dozen flies through break offs on fish…logs…branches…everything that could grab a fly…did.

So I am back to the vise again later this week since I have a three day trip coming up at the end of next week.
