Cameron MortensonMemberWell…back early from a weekend trip up to N.C. There was a storm Thursday night that raised the river about twelve to eighteen inches and the water was ripping. It was hard to get flies down to the fish but we had a good time nonetheless. I brought along K-9 “Ice” and he had a great time hanging out with the fellows. We hiked a lot of river miles yesterday only catching two small fish and by late afternoon with the temperature falling and the wind picking up we decided to head home.
Highlights from the weekend included picking up a few fish on the McFarland glass rod…and then our camp feast Friday night of grilled medium NY strips, asparagus, sauted potatoes with onions and mushrooms…which we washed down with a great pinot noir. Later we sat around the fire sipping Jameson whiskey from the tin cup. Ah…the upside of camp life…

Cameron MortensonMemberUmmm…I think K-9 Ice had the better time…though he is feeling it this morning. He is ten years old and that cold water did a number on him. He is limping around a bit this morning.
PoudreRiver…I was using the Pentax Optio.

MemberCameron,
Your shore lunches and camp meals look and sound better than what we prepare at home. Nice trip report and pictures.

Cameron MortensonMemberSplitshot…years ago when I started fly fishing I was so damn worried about losing time on the river that I wouldn’t eat or drink all day.

MemberThat’s a great idea, and certainly easy to do. I might start copying you.

Memberportable propane bottles and non-stick pots and pans are the best things that have ever happened to overnight fishing trips.

And battery powered tent fans.

MemberHa! I’ve got a couple of those fans now complete with LED lights. Used to be when I was a kid my friends and I would be content to sleep on a doubled up blanket, cook a hot dog on a stick, and for entertainment look at girly magazines one of my buddies would sneak from his dad. To get my wife and daughters into the woods for a weekend I now have to carry those fans, a portable DVD player, an entire library of kid movies and books, bikes, an inflatable mattress, a camp chef stove, a pinic table shelter, organic skim milk, flavored coffee, a half dozen lanterns, and an old man named Chauncy.

MemberSounds like you need either a Pop up or a Pack Mule.
