Great image of the “bull pen” at the olympics… I count 2 to 1 ratio of canon to nikon which is wierd (assuming the white lenses are primarily canon)… of course some black lenses could be petax, sony.. etc..

Are they turning off the VR or IS when using the monopods?

There’s a setting on the Canon lenses (I bet Nikon as well) for IS with mono pods – I think it only works n the horizontal plane.

Works pretty well in low light.

A picture is thousand words that takes less than a second while a thousand words is a picture that takes a month.

2:1 is actually a HUGE gain for Nikon over the last Olympics.

The real threat to Canon (and therefore Nikon as well) will IMHO come from Sony in the second half of this year.
They’re really pushing into DSLR’s in a big way.

They have a huge retail base and I think if they get the product and the price right you will be seeing a lot of them around.

I agree, but if they follow the traditional methodology, after a few years the Sony stuff will be… well.. poor..

    Example..

Sony made some of the sweetest digital cameras, remember the sony F717?
