After reading Tim Angeli’s post on River X, I felt like I was giving away to much information about my honey holes in my posts so I changed my writing style a bit. Left the house this morning at 4:45AM from City B and headed over Pass B to Valley P. It was still dark when I got to Town G but the Town Café opened at 6AM and I headed in for Breakfast. Big new among the locals was the bear that’s been prowling around at night. By 6:30AM I was at the trailhead and heading up River Y. My goal was a point just over 3 miles into the BC of River Y where I could get about a good ¾ mile of great water in between the narrower parts that are un-accessible. I had never fished this part of River Y and was really pumped after listening to Yanni at full volume on my drive up Valley P.

At the River Y trailhead

River Y about a mile up the BC

BC of River Y has a lot of productive water that’s tough to get to.
The hike in was quiet and cool. The BC was alive with Osprey. I didn’t take waders but did drag in a pair of studded boats—River Y can get quite slippery. After passing Creek B, there was about a mile to go to my fishin hole.

Getting ready to gear up.
By 8AM I was rigged up and fishing. Water was very clear and Black or Brown bunny streamers on the 7 wgt took a lot of C type trout but no large fish came to hand. By 11AM I switched to the 4wgt and started throwing foam hoppers. A lot of R type, CB type and C type trout came to hand- many from just inches of water along the shoreline. A few W type fish also played the game. Nothing large but several trout were in the 14” range and the action was steady. By 2PM the T-heads were building and I began my exit from the BC of River Y. By 3:30PM I was again at the trailhead. In baseball they tell you to “Hit them were they ain’t.” That’s a bit like the BC of River Y. In almost 8 hours of hiking and fishing, I saw no one else fishing and only a couple of hikers. It is easy to be alone in the BC of River Y.

Can’t go much further from here.

¾ mile of great water downstream from here.

The C type trout loved the bunny streamers.

C types were suckers for the foam hoppers

So were the B Type trout
I trust I didn’t give away too much.
PS. Lauren, I only saw two snakes—both garters.

Not a big snake, but a snake just the same.
