MemberTalk about a contrast in rivers and fishing for a single trip. After being blown away by the glacial beauty of the Elk and Fernie we headed out on another long haul for the desert and the John Day.
The drive down to the John Day was an illustration of how much technology can help you on a fishing trip… Someone else had made our room reservations and unknowingly booked us in the town of John Day. We realized the mistake when we called around to find where we were going to get fishing licenses and were told that we didnt really want to be fishing around the town of John Day.
hmmm …
Out comes the the magazine article “Oregon’s John Day River Smallies”

MemberWell, as a trout guy, I must say part 1 appeals to me more, but this still looks fun. More cool pics. Sweet fish shots and I dig the shot of the deer head with the rattler in it’s antlers.

I’m on the same page with you about being a trout guy, but after I got into the rhythm of the fishing .. It was a pretty good time and a great change of pace. I think the thing I enjoyed the most about the trip as a whole, was the contrast. The fishing, the water, the temps, the pace … It was pretty interesting.
I dig the shot of the deer head with the rattler in it’s antlers.
Thanks! I don’t think I have seen more animal heads in shops anywhere. I’m looking forward to going back for more pics of the town.

I did use the 10-22mm a ton .. I think it was a “new toy” thing .. lol. I did pull out the 50mm and the 100mm for a few hours though. I specifically stayed away from my fisheye on this trip.
Honestly, I can say that this message board that inspired me to pursue photography! Zach’s initial podcast on streamside photography got my interest and got me going out with a camera. It was an awesome road map for a new artistic outlook on fly fishing.
Along with that comes threads like these that have really inspired me to think about my photography, improve, and really push myself.
