Just bought some of the Frog Hair indicators, medium. I put one on my 6wt and I think as far as indicators go these might just be the best. They don’t pinch, twist, knot, or leave sticky residue on the leader and they stay put. It was very easy to adjust and seems like the ultimate indicator, so far.  I still haven’t tried Zach’s balloon method. The half hitch knot scares me a little.

What is your favorite and why??

Mike, I have tried some of the other non-yarn indicators and have had some kind of trouble with all of them.

I’ll make a video of how to tie and knot in my baloon indicators.

I have tried them all and keep going back to a little corky skewered with a tooth pick. I am drawn to fast riffle and pocket water and have found that a corky floats a couple of flies and BB’s the best. A nice additional advantage is that the tooth pick always points to where the shot are and offers a nice aid in visualizing what is going on with your flies.

I have tried the Frog Hair indicators and really liked the system. I think the ones I have might be the small size and are just not big enough for what I want them to do. Maybe some in a bigger size are in order for a field test…

I also like the cork balls with toothpick very much.
Good point about the toothpick pointing at the shot. I Never really thought about that.

I have the med size frog hair and they seem pretty big. still haven’t tried them on the water but I will soon.

I have broken fish off at the indicator with the cork & toothpick indicators.

I was finally able to find the Frog Hair indicators while up at Jesse Brown’s in Charlotte, NC this past weekend.

They should be easy to reuse. They come with plenty of extra little rubber thingys and you can also by extra ones.
