Does anyone on here hunt a springer spaniel?  I have a retired lab in her twilight days. She has been everything I could want in a dog and hunting companion.  My little girls, however, want a smaller “cute” dog.  That got me looking at Boykins, but another friend with extensive exposure to hunting Boykins  has a strong preference for springers.  That got me looking at springers.  Any thoughts or suggestions for kennels?  I would want a strong hunting line, as opposed to a breed line intended for shows.

    Thanks.

Not springers, but if you might be interested in something similar, yet different, a buddy of mine has Wachtelhunds, another flushing breed with a few more of the continental breed skills.

I grew up with a springer and it was an amazing dog.

Aaron, I can’t help you much with different breeds hunting ability or hunting style, i.e. flushing, pointing, retrieving, but as far as health and maintenance issues I can make some generalizations.

I plan on living forever, so far so good.

I’ve hunted a lot with both Springers and Boykins.

Brittanys are good dogs, and good with the family too.
