    Modern life depends on chemicals. Unfortunately some of them are harmful. From the article it looks like the railroad is to blame.

    BTW. A lot of the plastic feedstocks come to us as a byproduct of making steel and from the petroleum industry. Graphite comes to mind.

    Trout. I agree wholeheartedly. What we need in this country is a couple more refineries, but the cost of compliance puts builders off. Thereare plenty of places to place them tht are relatively environmentally innocuous, plus it would drive the cost of gas down.

    We saw the same thing here in BC 11 months ago, on our Cheakamus & Squamish Rivers. A train derailment dumped tons of costic soda in the headwaters and wipped out a major portion of the Pink Salmon run.
