MemberWhat was wrong with Aqua-Stealth that necessitated a change to Vibram? I own a pair of Rivershed studded aqua-stealth and love them. I have zero complaints nor have ever heard anyone ever complain about aqua-stealth. Why the change?
😕

The new stuff is just basically stickier.

“Aquastealth” (5.10) is no longer providing rubber to anyone. FFing manufactures are scrambling to find an alternative. Well be seeing a variety of ideas in the future. Vibram is a pretty hard rubber, so well see how well they do in cold water. If you like the “Aquastealth” you better buy last years boots now ; )
Hope this helps

MemberThe new stuff is just basically stickier… I just know Simms felt they could offer a better product with Vibram on board.
ZachZach,
Stickier than Five-Ten Stealth rubber? They claim (with accompanying science) to be the stickiest rubber on the planet. This Vibram stuff must be amazing, I am looking forward to checking them out when we get them in – Mid-April.
I am curious as to the type of complaints you heard and how Vibram will be better?
Thanks,

Believe me, this is not a value judgment – I am simply repeating what I was told at the Show.

MemberBoth Simms and Cloudveil have the new Vibram sole. Basically, it’s a harder, stickier rubber than the Aquastealth. I’ve been wearing a pair of Cloudveil 8x boots in the new Vibram for several months. I’ve fished a good bit in both tailwaters and mountain freestones with the boots. My take is they are very nice for hike ins on mountain streams and hold very well on all types of rocks and slime in the freestones. For the tailraces, that slick algae is still a problem (the same stuff that you slip around wearing felt, too). It holds, but you’re still going to need to use caution when wading around. For the most part, I think they hold about as well as felt. Another cool thing is I’ve been using them for duck hunting this winter and they’re awesome dual purpose boots, whether I’m setting decoys in mud or slick rocky bottom.

Tim AngeliMemberI’ve also heard that the Vibram soles have a longer lifetime due to them being a harder compound than the aquastealth.

Roy ConleyMemberI spent today fishing, err…, testing the new Simms StreamTread soles on a North Georgia tail-water and once again I am very pleased with the sure footing provided by the new soles.

I googled “Mountaineering boots” and the link below was the fist listed. Have fun working your way through the list of $200 – $400 boots and see how many do not say Vibram in description of the sole.

MemberI’m no shoe sole expert but there are probably hundreds of different coumpounds Vibram can use for soles for different purposes.
