I’ve never been happy about the way MSRP is handled in the fly fishing industry; it’s blatantly anti-competitive and it props up bad distributors as well as good ones.

Some things about this story don’t add up.

My local Coscto had the G4 Pro waders for $399 last week.

I posted over on the Angling Trade site, but I’ll post here as well.  If Costco did what they are alleged to have done shame on them.  It may not have been illegal but it certainly was unethical.

At risk of playing devils advocate, in the article I didn’t see a response from Costco.  There were statements from both Sage and Simms, yet apparently no response from Costco.  Does this mean they were contacted and wouldn’t comment or does it mean they weren’t even contacted.

I have contacted Costco’s corporate office and hope to hear something back.

That retailer, I believe, was doing the same thing with high end watches in the past.

I just received a call back from Costco’s Sporting Good buyer and had a very nice, unfortunately “off the record” conversation.
