Lets talk shock tippet… what knots do you guys prefer for tippet-to-shock-tippet connections?

Anyone had any experience with the “slim beauty”?

I have used the slim beauty but prefer – for simplicity and speed, as well as strength – a well tied triple turn surgeons knot. The Aussie connection is what i would use in a tournament situation or if I was chasing extreme
    world records.

For mono to single strand wire I use an Albright variation – 5 turns down and 4 back up with the tag exiting the opposite way to the entering tippet.

I have tried a number of knots, but have settled on the Albright for shock tippets.

    Thanks for the response!
I’m not familiar with the “Aussie connection”… are you referring to the “Aussie Plait”?

I have tried a number of knots, but have settled on the Albright for shock tippets.  It makes a low profile knot that doesn’t leave a kink in the line like the double surgeons.   I’ve never tried the slim beauty, but it looks overly complicated to me.

I agree with the “line kink”,

I use the double uni knot. Simple to tie and incredibly strong.

I use the slim beauty a good bit but I still tie a bimini on each end of the class tippet.

I plan on living forever, so far so good.

I don’t know how a slim beauty can replace a Bimini, both have different applications. Biminis just take a little practise but I think that saltwater fly fishing with out Biminis is like food without onions.

The Aussie connection is similar to a Huffnagle but you use a nail knot in the shock tippet instead of the overhand knot.

The double uni is good but in tests the triple turn surgeons beats it hands down, its a beautiful knot when tied properly.

No doubt about it, the slim beauty is the way to go. It has a low profile, is easy to tie once you get the hang of it and is nearly 100% in breaking strength. For class tippet, I prefer 20# Mason. It is stiff, for good turnover, and has a large diameter, which means good abrasion resistance. And if you are into IGFA requirements, it is easy to come out with the maximum length of class tippet. Impossible with double biminis.
And for the record, biminis are not that hard to tie. I tie them to relax. Easier than yoga.
