Jim Sammons does some crazy stuff, mostly to promote his show. I’ve had sharks chase fish I had hooked but I usually break them off so they have a fighting chance. Keeping fish on and letting sharks hit them may look cool on television, but it is a waste of good fish and it teaches sharks to hang around kayak fishermen.

Honestly it seems incredibly dangerous to me. Even if the sharks aren’t after you, you’re in the way. This is about like screwing around with bison in Yellowstone to me — not technically “dangerous” but still a stupid idea.

I’ve also had sharks come up to the pontoon and circle me, usually when I was keeping fish and there was blood in the water.

Zach, it stuff like this that just proves that “Common Sense” is mislabeled. It should be “Rare Sense”.

On Discovery’s Shark Week was a video of a guy with a tarpon on in Florida. As the fish was coming up to the boat a shark took all but the head. The guy said that it wasn’t as uncommon as you would think.
