So I know there is probablly tons of info about this out on the net but I feel like I’ve got a little more trust in what certain people around here have to say about stuff, especially with something as sensitive as this…

Have used the lens pen technique Richard recommends. But if the sensor is really dirty–hardened spots–I’d be more comfortable using a solution of water/alcohol (I’ve seen 60% water/40% alchohol–90% isopropol recommended, I’ve used 70% and it worked but leaves streaks which the lens pen will remove afterward) and sensor swabs first, just to soak the dirt spots and remove them and then let it dry. The lens pens does a wonderful job on dust and light spots.
If you do it yourself, you will probably void the warranty. If you have any hesitancies, send it in and let the manufacturer do it. I just can’t because I’d be sending it every month as much as I change lens in the field.
Get you a pair of 4x strong magnifiers and a LED headlamp and that will give you a good view of the dirt on the sensor. Just be sure to open the mirror on a full battery or plug it in to AC if you have an adapter so it doesn’t accidentally shut on you while you work.
Easy to do, but easy to mess up also. Go with your comfort level and don’t do anything stupid 🙂

Carter- I,m sure you would be way ahead of me- but have you checked the rear element of your len/s to make sure it is not on there, before hitting the sensor cleaning button?

I’ve yet to try a pec-pad and solution, it kind of gives me the willies.
I do use an artic butterfly though and I am impressed with results. Prior to picking it up I found blowers to be unreliable. Sometimes they’d get most of the dust, sometimes it would add dust…….after all your only blowing dust around the inside of the box upside down or not.
1 sweep with the AB and virtualy all the dust is gone.
That said I dont think the AB is capable of removing a caked on spec. For that a solution is needed. Thankfully I dont have any caked on dust and because the AB is a) easy and b) effective I clean every couple of weeks and so dont expect to get any caked on.
