MemberIs anyone fishing this rod? I recently purchased this rod with the fighting butt and am looking for recommendations on lines and reels to pair with it.
I’m using a Rio Gold on my 905-4 Radian and it pairs nicely, but I’m wondering if something else may be better (i.e. Rio Bandit, various SA offerings).
As far as reels, I have a Nautilus FWX 5/6 (for the 905) that is pretty close to balance but am wondering if another reel balances spot on.
Thanks!

MemberHello Bobby,
I bought the RADIAN 906-4 without the fighting butt, for (unknown) larger rivers, strong winds and heavy trout streamers. It is my travel rod for larger waters and wind.
Your rod version with the fighting butt is slightly faster (I did cast them side by side before buying).
I use a SA Sharkwave GPX WF 6F with mine (the SA Sharkwave Trout WF 6 F is not heavy enough). The GPX line loads the rod nicely and submits more feel. The RADIAN 906-4 FW is nevertheless true to the line weight and is not a 7wt rod.Just my experience. I didn´t test the RIO GOLD. On the SCOTT web site are line recommendations as well as in the RIO line configurator. Maybe they are a bit theoretical.
Regarding the reel: I use a WATERWORKS-LAMSON SPEEDSTER S3 (Black version with orange knob, see http://www.adh-fishing.de/fliegenrollen/rollen/waterworks-lamson-speedster-fliegenrolle-limitiertes-sondermodell-in-schwarz). A GALVAN TORQUE T6 in Black would also balance the rod and looks good too. Both reels are almost identical in weight. The TORQUE has the better drag system IMO (it can be set more fluently), the line retrieve speed is better with the SPEEDSTER. Craftsmanship is equal on both.

David DarnellMemberBobby,
I’m using Nautilus FWX 7/8 on mine with AIRFLO Exveed Trout WF6F, I have tried RIO Gold, Perception, AIRFLO Distance Pro, it likes them all.
I have Radian in 4, 6, 8 all are great, the 8 thinks it’s 6 🙂 Jim and crew @ Scott got this rod series on the money.

MemberThanks, guys. Anybody using sinking lines? I really like the Nautilus reels and am happy to hear the FWX 7/8 is a good fit.

MemberThe two versions are built on the same blank!
I fished this rod for a while and found the SA Mastery Steelhead taper suited it well.

I have an Orvis Depth Charge 200 grain sinking line on mine, and it’s perfect for throwing even very big streamers. For a floating line I really like the Rio Perception.

MemberThanks! I picked up a SA streamer express 200 grain that my local shop had on closeout, but I haven’t tried it out yet. They also ordered an Airflo Bandit for me that should hopefully be in this week. I’ve been fishing it with a SA nymph taper which may or may not be the best fit, but the rod itself is incredible.
