scott fans i need help ?

i need to replace a sage 490 xp which was stolen from my car i have not been happy with the z axis that i have. was thinkin about what i may replace it with , what scott should i buy new or used. i have some old loomis rod that i like but haven’t liked any of new loomis. i have cast the scott g2 is slower than i like but really like the cosmetic i have owned a e2 to heavy and stiff for a 4 wt. g series was to slow for my like . so what should i check out?

If you’re trying to duplicate the feel of the XP and price is not an issue (and you’re really committed to Scott), I’d probably go with an S4 904, which is Scott’s fastest 4 weight currently.

I fished with the S4 904 when I visited Colorado earlier this year. Its a great rod, more versatile than you would think. From memory it was matched with a Rio Gold. If you’re looking for a *new* rod by all means check the S4 #4 out.

the xp fits my cast much better . the z axis is a 5wt just doesn’t fish as the xp ‘ i have fished several times can’t get with the z ,the xp was my favorite of all the sages that i have owned including LL ,rpl ,rpl+and z axis, i have owned 3 z’s have sold all except the 590. i tryed the scott

I’ve always wondered what makes a rod a dry fly rod or a nymph rod…

Obviously a longer rod makes mending and reaching when nymphing a lot easier but I even fish nymphs on a 7 ft bamboo rod. But maybe it’s just me?

Hey Bill – Scott don’t make an S4s in #4 weight… You must have tried the S4 which in 9′ version weighs in at 2.8 grams.

your right age has something to do with it, hard to keep all the letters and numbers straight between rod companys. they keep changing every year.

well just purchased today a scott s4 10ft 4 wt. need to get fishing, i will let you know how i comes out.

had a chance to fish scott 10ft 4 wt s4 on Saturday. that baby can mend some line , and cast was good, handled fish well,[ pleased,] might get a chance to try tomorrow on s holston. need to add some weight on the abel super 4 that i have
