Okay….I’ll admit ignorance here. I need some advice.

My mother called today and said she found a shoebox full of 35mm slides that belong to my uncle….he’s 86 years old. She said the box is marked, “Photos – Korean War and WWII. He is a veteran of BOTH wars!

Anyhow…I want to get some of these slides scanned into a digital format (.jpg?) so I can tweak them in Photoshop. So here’s my question: How do I scan these slides? I have a scanner but somehow I don’t believe that is what is meant by “scanning slides”.

Any advice on how to attempt this would be appreciated.

You have to have a slide scanner. I borrowed one from a friend that is a flatbed scanner that has a slide scanning option. That style has a light that shines through the back of the slides so you can scan them. Can’t speak for others, but the quality of these scans was awful. I have some shots that I’d like to have blown up and the scans had so much garbage in the shot from the scan that it won’t work. I’ll have to take them to the photo place to have them scanned.

They make a slide scanner that isn’t a flatbed if you’ve got the coin. I’m sure that would have to produce better results.

For reference, my local high quality photo store charges something like $2/slide just to scan it for you.
