Has anyone used the SB800 with SB600 slaves, if so; what were your thoughts? I am not a big fan of fill light but I was thinking of getting a couple of SB600’s as slave untis for those impromt moments and possibly for remote location shots.. Thanks! 🙂

As far as I know, the SB-600 will work the same as the SB-800 in a slave function.

I use two SB-800s in that manner on occasion, and they work well.

Thanks Buzz. I am looking more for and alternate and simplified means of side and back lighting for minor location shots and battery operated is a big plus. The SB600 will not function as a master, like the SB800 does so, I was thinking of getting several SB600’s for the slaves. Just curious about how well they worked as a back and slide light system.

    Hi

Not sure which cam and what the application is but…

I use a couple of Sb-26 units I trigger off my Nikon d200 popup flash with the d200 dialed down to minimum.

The Sb-26’s are cheap reliable and available.

I dont like using flash fill on TTL or Auto, my basic approach is slow sync/ambiant flash fill combo with as much control as I can get- the sb-26’s go down to 1/64 power on manual- my preferd method. So the control is via the manual power and how close you have the flash to the subject. Closer more fill farther away less fill. Pretty simple. In my opionion also far more control than relying on in cam
    flash control.

With the popup acting as the trigger it is a wireless system.

I have a Lumiquest Big Bounce/Wescott Mini Apollo/Stoffen as modifiers, choice depends on what effect I want, and a few white and black peices of foam and a couple of

Perfect Will!!! That is exactly what I was curious about and the methods in which I wanted to use the lighting.  Thanks!!!!!  i take it that you like this set up? My thoughts were to use this type of set up during some outings where I stumble upon some potential decent stock photograpghy. I am heading back to europe for about 6 months this time, in a couple of weeks. I will also be using this type of set up mostly on the D200 or D80.

Seems that the word is already out on that one Will, can only find the SB-26’s on sell at ebay and only one at a time.. International shiping wpuld kill me lol  Question for you though, have you by chance tried the SU-800 wireless commander/ Seems that it may be a better fit in the long run but wanted to check and see if you have tried it yet, or know of anyone that has.. Thanks again 🙂

Thanks for the links too as they cover exactly what my desire of use is 🙂
