I recently read an older article on sanding down grips. It said this helped some people’s casting and they had less arm fatigue(especially in higher weight rods). I was blessed with wide hands and short stubby fingers and thought this might help me out some. I was wanting to try on a backup rod first.

Anyone ever tried this or have suggestions on how to?

I’ve done it a number of times to alter the shape of a weird grip or to clean up the cork.

Personally I think a very thin Ritz grip would be pretty elegant, but I’ve never seen one.

Thanks for the advice, I think I am going to keep it simple and take them down to a cigar style.

    Dunfly –

I took a 2 1/2″ or 3″ PVC end cap, and a scrap (broken) drill bit.

Well, my understanding is the initial “factory sealer” is little more than water-based Elmer’s Glue and some cork dust.
