    Hi Guys

I’m on the lookout for a good intro book on tying salt water flies.
I’ve been tying flies for probably 20 years, but never have I tied a salt water fly.
Something has sparked a new interest, so I’m looking to get started

    What can you recommend?
    Cheers

If you are after a good read as well try Morise’s “A few great flies…and how to tie them”.

If I were going to buy a book it would probably be Essential Saltwater Flies by Ed Jaworowski.

I started tying last year and started with saltwater flies. To be honest I found the videos on youtube and the like to be the most help. I google images of the fly I want to tie, look at those and the video. There are lots of good videos. I’ve been disappointed with the books I’ve seen or bought.

I am relatively new to tying saltwater flies and have seen the Enrico Puglisi videos that are free.  Is it worth becoming a member to get access to the other videos?

Enrico has some really innovative concepts/patterns and his offerings have made a positive impact.
With that being said a lot of his patterns are dictated by employing the use of his material line and some can be a bit time consuming to create.
Please don’t misunderstand me, I have plenty of EP materials at my bench (they can get a little pricey) and have fished a variety of his patterns with good success.
I would advise you to “join in” on his membership offering, there is no real downside to gaining more insight into different techniques and finding what works for your skill level.
Just keep in mind this is just one offering out there and the internet is almost boundless in allowing you to find what you like as well as what works best for you.
Its a pretty rewarding feeling hooking up on a fly you tied.

I fish mostly salt and one thing I have found is that saltwater fish aren’t really that particular.  Get the size and color right and they will hit about anything.  I really have only 3 go to flies that work for about any occasion, a kwan, a schminnow and a gurgler.

Is Enrico’s web site worth it.

I’d recommend Lefty Kreh’s video on tying salt water flies.

    Best Regards,
