A few guys a work with are planning a fishing trip to Quebec to fish for walleye and pike.
I’ve never tried for pike before and would really like to take one on a fly.
Need some help with rod and reel selection along with what streamer patterns might work.
We will be fishing from either boat or walk in on lakes in the Kipawa area.
Also, if anyone has ever fished up there, are there any worthwhile trout waters? The only info I can find on trout is for lakers.

I decided to go after some tiger muskie on a fly rod this year … I wanted a general heavy rod i could use for steelhead, bonefish, and muskie … To me, the best general weight of rod sounded like a 9wt. I think the guys here tend to fish for muskie with a 10wt. I’m still trying to figure out which reel will best cover all my bases.
Most of my fly fishing will be on walk in lakes. I’m thinking of an 8 weight just because I’ve been told that most of the pike are only in the 30″ range with an occasional 50. I’d use an 8 at home for bass fishing and such, but I don’t know that I’d ever use a 9 or 10 weight enough to justify the purchase. But again, I fly fish for native trout and the occasional Susquehanna River smallmouth, I really don’t know what I’m doing on the larger fish.
What would you pick for a rod/reel combo in the $300-400 range? I’m looking at Echo and maybe even building a rod from a Cabella’s or RL Winston blank.
Have no idea what reel to use and am anxiously waiting Zach’s article on reels. Hurry UP Zach! 🙂
