Eric WellerMemberOkay little feedback would be appreciated.
Here is my scenario, I booked a two day trip last summer with a big named fly shop for some smallmouth fishing. Well two months out I have to cancel due to issues with my wife’s health. The shop has listed on their website if you cancel 30 days prior you can get a full refund. Not wanting a refund I call to re-schedule the trip. After a lot of back and forth with the shop workers, they give me the owners email address and I take up the issue with him. He advises that he can only credit me one day since the other day was not booked. After repeatedly asking him why he won’t honor his policy he comes out and asks me what am I talking about with a 30 day policy refund and where am I getting this info? I inform him it’s on his website. After a brief time he comes back with the website is outdated and he updated it to reflect the current policy. He gave me the impression that he will make it good on this but now I must have misunderstood him and he now says I’m out half of my deposit. Am I out of line for asking for him to honor what was listed on his website????Dec 22, 2015 at 12:14 pm #89084Zach Matthews
The Itinerant AnglerEric:
That’s super bad business on the shop owner’s part and you are 100% in the right to demand your full deposit back. If he held that offer out via his website, he can’t come along and change the terms after you asked him to make good on it. I would take the issue up with my credit card company and see if they can reverse the charge.

Phil BrnaMemberIf his website said what you say it did, he is wrong. I agree that you should call your cc company if you paid with a credit card. However, before you do, I suggest calling the fly shop owner again and telling him that you are going to dispute the charge and offer him one last chance to fix it. You might also tell him that in this day and age with social media you could post all over the internet about what he did. Save all of your emails.

Mike ClineMemberEric, sorry to hear about your wife’s health. Hope that gets better soon. As Phil said above, social media (Yelp, Tripadvisor, etc,) can be a powerful tool in either getting guys like this to fix the problems and live up to their commitments or if they don’t, go out of business. I would strongly recommend that you post something about this outfitter on several social media forums. Unacceptable behavior that others should be made aware of. On a recent trip to Key West we got weathered out of a trip and the outfitter was very gracious and quick to provide a refund because we were unable to reschedule, They lived up to their promises. Good Luck, looks like you all are going to have warm W. Penn winter.
