Hey guys I’m in a lull of creativity for salt water tying. Anyone care to offer up any patterns that they enjoy using and tying for these species? I would certainly appreciate it.

For redfish you might take a crack at those silly putty spoon flies.

I’m not going to get a shot at either bones or permit this year, but I still enjoy tying the flies. I’m glad you brought up the silly putty spoons. I think I’ll take a swing at them.

For redfish, my favorite fly is a Kwan in light or dark brown, or even a mix of light and dark.

What Bob said….Crazy Charlies are easy and fun to tie. Switch out with bead chain eyes and bar bells for different sink rates.

Seeing that you are from AL….Roll Tide….they also are quite effective on crappie.

Gotchas are a good place to start for bones.

Cool, anyone care to throw a few pictures up of their favorite patterns and how they tie them?

    Kwan

I tie it with a weed guard.  I also add rubber legs sometimes, particularly if reds a feeding on crab.  It is sort of a crab/shrimp immitation.  I use synthetic carpet yarn on mine and brush it out to get a smoother appearance. I use either bead chain eyes or lead eyes depending on depth I am fishing.  Here is a link to some basic instructions.

    Prince of Tides

I tie this in a variety of colors from white to dark brown or rust.  It is an easy tie, just make sure you don’t put too much bend in the hook shank.  30 deg at most.  I usually use a large clear or amber larva lace for the body, underwraped with a gold mylar, but you can use a heavy mono.

Those are some good ties, I have tied both before. I hadn’t ever thought to use heavy mono as a body. Very cool.
