MemberMerry Christmas everyone. I am up in the North Carolina Mountains with the in-laws for the holidays. Today, Christmas Eve, the weather was an unprecedented 65 degrees and I hit the Chattooga River (that’s the river where the infamous movie Deliverance was filmed). I was feeling anemic after my strikeout in Islamorada and was in need of some redemption. Well, Santa came early this year. There is nothing like hitting your home waters and putting it all together.
Zach, the Itinerant Angler T-shirt has the stink on it man.

Can you believe this is December? More like spring fishing.

Two nice big browns (I don’t talk about size anymore, they were just damn fine fish). Shot with my pocket Olympus 770SW, I’m really starting to like this little waterproof camera.

MemberAhhhh…the Tooga, finest water in Georgia. I’ve not always been a big fan of that section, but it’s been growing on me. Looking at the stain in the water makes me hot. Been way, way too long since I saw the Tooga looking like that. Thanks. Very nice looking fish.

MemberGary, FlyG,
The water is a bit stained but it had been raining for about two days prior to this trip. I assumed that was related to the tannin stain. Overall I must say that the water was pretty clear and healthy looking.

MemberNice rebound. I had my new IA shirt on last night for the family get together. The tie didn’t look right though. Still have it on now as i’m debating if I want to go fishing 32 degrees and most likely no fish around or go take some pic’s at the ocean. My only real complaint is all the coffee shops ie. Dunkin Donuts will be closed :'(

MemberJohn, I am interested in your steelhead comment. I am not aware that steelhead are in the Smokey Mtn Nat’l Park? However, I am not very knowledgeable about Santeetlah Lake. Have you (or anyone else) caught steelhead in the park?
Stephen, Christmas with the IA T-shirt – that’s great. I hear what you’re saying about hitting the water, sometimes you have to weigh all the pros/cons and make an informed decision on wether to go out (sometimes you go no matter what). Great comment on the donuts and coffee, I love powdered donuts while driving to the river and pimento cheese sandwiches while fishing.

MemberJust out of curiosity what did you mean when you said, ” Looking at the stain in the water makes me hot?” I might be mistaken but I assumed that you are implying this is a bad thing? Is there something going on up there I should know about?
Didn’t mean to be cryptic. Actually meant the opposite. I love fishing that river when it runs high with a little tea stain (1.5-2.0 on the usgs guage). With the drought, it has run low and hot and clear since the spring, so I’m gratified to see it getting back in some kinda shape. Thanks for the report
