MemberThanks for the feedback on the previous videoblogs, guys. I’ll post one more link here to the one I did this weekend. So here is a fishing fix for those of you who have not made it out recently, http://www.flyflinger.com/wpblog/?p=198
I may never get really good at this, but I’m having fun with the process.
I’ve been really pleased with the video capability of the Canon G9 that Richard Bernabe mentioned last winter. All the video and the rainy day stills were taken with it using Canon’s waterproof case. I forgot the flash diffuser for the case, so the one of Mike’s fish shows an odd flash pattern.
I dropped the camera in the truck, while trying to put it in the case, and cracked the LCD protective cover. Looks like it will cost me about $50 to replace it myself, and it will probably void the warranty. But otherwise, the camera has functioned well and stood up to some abuse.
Anyone know of any tricks to keeping the lens cover clear of raindrops in a downpour? It’s a pain to have to reach into a compartment and fetch a rag especially when the action is going.
I have not tried the camera underwater yet. Waiting for some wade fishing conditions–may have to wait a long time.

MemberScott,
Well done, again. Every time I see what you create I get an urgent need to head up to Bull Shoals. It will be interesting also to see what you come up with once you try out the underwater features of the G9. How is that camera treating you, overall?

MemberSorry Scott, I just realized you were not referring to the LCD. Could you fashion a hood out of a piece of 3/4″ or 1″PVC, cut at an angle and fit over the lens? It might look a bit ghetto, but keep the lens dry.

MemberThanks, Dusty. That was a thought, I tried a rubber band and piece of craft foam to make a short hood with an 1-1/4 overhang, but it vignettes at wide angle. Need something easy and practical. Guess I will need to start carrying a small piece of chammy cloth in my rain jacket pocket.

I’ve enjoyed the camera for what it is.

MemberIf you put Rain-X on the outside of the housing, would it create a film and thereby ruin future images? If not, the Rain-X might a help a little by making the water sheet off vs. sticking in droplets.

MemberHave thought about Rain-X also. May try that. Thanks.
