MemberZach, here are some shots of the rubber-leg wooly buggers. I have been working out this pattern lately, almost got it the way I want. I think the key is to use Uni-Flexx or Spanflex rubber instead of standard Sili-legs or even Tenticles.
Original Orvis pattern

My first-attempts.

The Itinerant AnglerI am thinking bigger, less legs, more Calcasieu Pigboat style.

MemberNeal-
Many here already know about the M.D., but I think we are going to have to add an honorary title of Ph.D. to your growing list of accolades. Very informative post, and I look forward to your results re. the woolies. Are those bluegills of the “Georgia Giant” variety? I saw a website claiming to have 5lb. ‘gills. You Georgia boys been holding out on us? :'(
Many Thanks,

MemberThanks Dusty. I’m just a detailed person in general and I love to learn from others. I like to add lots of detail and pictures to my posts because it allows others to really see what you are thinking and it generally adds to the overall tone of the post. Now that I have gotten good with the camera I can shoot some shots and post in less than 2-3 minutes. Otherwise, I’m just a scientist by trade and the detail part has come from years of publishing in peer reviewed journals; brutal to say the least. This is just pure enjoyment. Just so you know, I generally batch shoot a bunch of shots at once that I know will help convey a message in the future. Then I save them on the computer as stock photos. Thus some of my posts look very detailed but I often just grab shots as needed. I always have my camera on my tying bench.
BTW, those are Callaway bluegills, big sloppy genetic monsters.

InactiveSorry Tim,
I must have browsed right by this truth. I’m with you brother. Let’s say to hell with the jobs, get some gear, and head out to some unnamed waters, if we can find some. I hear Kamchatka is nice this time of year!D.
That would be great….but who would take out the trash for my wife??

MemberI get most of my materials from saltwaterflies.com – they have a great selection of magnum strips in every color….they are usually the cheapest too.
