Anyone have a good way of keeping track of reels, spools and lines?

Those big labels from the fly line case indeed get worn off very quickly.

    Here’s how I do it:
    * cut a SMALL piece (size quarter of a stamp size) from Scotch Magic Tape
    * write down the type & line weight (e.g. WF3) using a water resistant fine tipped pen
    * stick it onthe BACK SIDE of the spool.

This way the label doesn’t get worn out and I can always see what line is on which spool.

On the last page of my outdoor log book I have all my lines listed and on the reel end of each line I use permanent marker to put marks on the line sort of a roman numeral system of long and short marks.
The system works ok but has some obvious draw backs hopefully someone has a better idea.

    Joylon,

Line Dots will help you identify your reels & spools plus hold your tippet.

Drop me a PM or email and I will provide you a link.

    Dot Man

Thanks–I’d seen your stuff via sexyloops, but always figured the carbon footprint of sending dots to England more than my conscience could stand

Sorry guy’s I didn’t have time to reply earlier and thought someone else would post the answer. Don’t you guys know about the Marking system for lines, large band say 1/4″-3/8″=5wt, small band say 1/16″-1/8″=1wt in b[red]l[/red]ack marker. bands in the middle for DT bands on the backing end for WF. This is the most common method over here, it’s quick, at a glance you know what line it is 😉

    eg: 1 Large Band + 2 Small = 7wt
