First let me say hello.
Been lurking for some time. Have really enjoyed reading everyone’s
contributions.
Discovered the board via the podcast.

On my way to S.L.C for the outdoor retailer show and had hoped to get some time on the middle Provo.
Was just wondering if anyone here could give me a recent report? What type of flies to bring? How’s the water?  From what I could gather it looks like PMDs in the morning and caddis later on?
Also, if anyone else here is involved with the show and would like to join me please let me know.

Just passing through for a trade show.
I go twice a year. Snowboard in the winter and fish in the summer. However this will be the first time that I have managed to get on the river in the day light.
My home waters are central PA. Anyone on the board near central PA?

Thanks for the welcome!
Lived in Seattle for most of my life. Only been in PA for 2 years. I live in State College and work near Lock Haven. It’s been great exploring all of the trout water around here and it’s nice being close to the coast for stripers. Was just in your neck of the woods on the little J. Seems like one of the few spots that stays cool enough this time of year.

Steven, Nice hearing from you. I live in Altoona. Fish as far as The Yellow Breaches, but mostly Spring creek, Penns and the J. Right now Penns is too hot. The J is low and and with the heat is getting warm in the 70 degree water temp. I backed off for now and will restart as soon as the weather changes. Retired so I can fish whenever I want and where I want. Great luxury. Frank 🙂

I’ve fished the Provo for the last 12 years as my primary fishing destination. Trust me it isn’t worth the trip – I’d go somewhere else – leave the lowly Provo for us locals… No – actually the fishing on the Provo (Lower, Middle and Upper) is quite good. However, this late in the summer the fishing is cooling off a bit. I’ve had success lately swinging soft hackles and stripping streamers in the early morning hours. PMDs are the most consistent producer. Caddis come off sporadically throughout the day but at about 9:00 (just when its getting dark) the fish really key in on them. The middle gets the most attention during the summer months because the lower section (in the canyon) has lots of people tubing down the river. Still there are loads of fish all over the Provo and you can’t go wrong anywhere. Eddie Robinson’s is the best shop in the area – I live near there and he’s always been very good for local river updates and advice. Hope you enjoy the Provo!
