I recently saw an ad in Digital Photo Pro that mentioned printing on Alum. Foil. It sounds cool, but does it work? In my simplistic mind, I envision cutting a piece of 8.5X11 foil and feeding it into my printer. Anyone care to help me not break my printer, subsequently keeping me in the good graces of the Mrs.?
Thanks,
Dusty
Am I to assume that this idea is absurd, or were y’all gonna wait until I told you about melting a printer?
Not that I would blame you as I would laugh at that as well.
Dusty
You can do it but not with the plain old home ink jet printers. Our sign printer does it and it looks awesome.. BUT it is also made to print on vinyl, canvas and acetate and cost about $20000.
It’ll smear on your home machine.
Tektronics, back in the day made a thermal wax printer that would print on anything. I am not sure why that technology went away. It was great for making mock ups.
Thanks Kevin,
I knew it sounded too good for me to be able to do something like that at home. It would be awesome though if we could we could load our printers with all different types of materials.
places like mpix, WHCC and other internet digital printers do have metalic paper options. Apparently black and white prints on the stuff looks really good. I haven’t tried it yet or seen a print in person.
