    Hi-

    Horrific news – I just received a barely used Scott Fibertouch rod I purchased on eBay; this should be a very happy event.  Sadly it looks like the Postal Service decided to run over the rod tube with a Sherman tank so the tube is now approximately 1/2″ thick on one end.  I’m not certain that I can extract the rod from tube…

    I’m not sure how this happens but it’s very discouraging and more than a little disappointing.  Hopefully the insurance pans out for this.

    Anyone else have similar shipping horror stories?

    Not many rods can survive lateral crushing.

    I wish I could get it out of the tube at this point.  The tube is so flat that the rod has been pinned into the tube.  I think I’m going to need the jaws of life for this.  I figure I can hack-saw off the part of the tube that is still round…I’m not certain how to go about expanding the flattened part enough to get the rod out.  Perhaps an old bench-vise and some patience…

    Seth…you may want to check before hack sawing the tube apart that the USPS will honor the insurance claim if you try to extract the rod.

    I went through a similar scenario with USPS recently over a rod and my options were;

    Give the rod back to USPS permanently and they would refund the insurance cost, which was the ebay purchase price (basically voiding the purchase), which would not replace the rod (unless I found another good deal).

    or

    Do nothing with USPS and eat the cost to have it replaced through warranty (which I chose to do).

    Maybe you will have better luck
