(Potential) new world record striper

Apparently, a striper weighing 81.8 lbs was caught yesterday in Long Island Sound off the Connecticut coast.

Apparently, when he caught it there was a hook and six feet of leader coming out of its mouth.

If you have ever read the story of the last guy who held the record, he kind of went through hell after he caught the fish.  He had family conflicts because relatives thought he’d get a lot of money and they wanted handouts, he was taken advantage of in business deals, and he was really treated badly by other anglers who were envious or skeptical of the catch.  He wrote at one point that he hated that he ever caught the fish.

Hopefully this guy gets better treatment than that, though the initial false stories circulating on the Internet aren’t encouraging.
