John BennettMemberFriend of mine pointed me to the site and Ive been familiarising myself with the site and forums, thought this might be the thread to introduce myself a bit. Life long angler who made the conversion to fly fishing some years ago. Last year I took up photography and spent the year learning with an emphasis on wildlife and bird photography. Throughout my goal has been to combine both passions and this season I think Im ready to do that although its still proving more difficult than hoped.
Anywho a few of my favorites from last year. Hopefully this year trout and fishing will figure more prominantly.
Red Tail

Coopers Hawk

Northern Harrier

Snowy Owl

Common Loon

Chinook Salmon

Anwho thats a bit a bout me and a few of my pics. Looking forwards to this season and turning my attention back to the streams and lakes I love to fish around here (Southern Ontatio) but now with my gear in tow. So far, it tough to find subjects especially when wading solo but all in good time and Im sure theres lots to learn yet.
/edit to resize them a bit

MemberJohn. I really dig the Coopers Hawk image. Can you share the exif data? At least camera and lens….
Anyone, how come you can download some images and see the exif data in Photoshop CS2 and others are blank?

John BennettMemberThanks Scott.
Gear; I use the Canon 30D and 400 L f5.6 for most Bird photography, although a couple pics from earlier in the year were taken with the 100-400L. I made the switch to the prime for its AF speed primarily.

MemberBowman, you have to upload your photos to an online site. Then in your message body just click the icon that looks like a picture framed (third from left, first row) and insert the URL in between the brackets.
Don’t know why I didn’t see this thread sooner. I’ll chime in with 5 fun pics from 2006…

That photo was taken on the headwaters of the Oconoluftee in GSMNP. I set the camera on a rock. It was featured on the back cover of the recent Eastern Brook Trout Joint Venture action plan.
My wife had never gone fishing with me before. She agreed to go on a trip for native brookies near Summersville, WV for our 6th anniversary. This was her first painted trout.
I took my brother in law on his first trip for southern WV coalfield wild trout. I was actually photographing the ducks and didn’t realize what was in the shot until later. Pretty dang cool.
A WV native brookie stream
One of my Angling Ghosts shots that I liked.
Fitting Fluid…Deschutes Brewing Co. on the Deschutes Riveroops, is that 6. I can’t read.

MemberWell, I was going though all the photos on my computer and forgot about this one. It is NOT my photograph, but it is one of my farvorites. Carter Thurman is the photographer. One of my roommates, Carter, and I all met in Kalispel, Montanta one summer to do some backpacking in Glacier NP. My roommate and I flew out, and Carter drove from eastern Montana to meet us at the airport. When we arrived Carter showed us some of the photos he had taken, and this one was among them. Not too shabby for a Fuji S5100. Carter was interning in E.Montana while researching ducks (banding). He said he saw this storm brewing in the distance and climbed a fire tower to shoot. This is what he captured.

I am pretty sure he won the AJC photo contest a couple years back.
