Tried to keep this down to a few more memorable moments. I am very very glad that no one got a shot of me when i stepped off the boat into an 8 ft hole on the Beaverhead … grabbed the side of the boat and floated to the bank! LOL.

Snake River Cutt, Wyoming – This shot was taken on Greys River, my favorite fly fishing river. This is where I learned to fly fish 24 years ago. I have fished this river with my grandfather, my father, and I am looking forward to fishing it with my son.

Nez Perce Creek, Yellowstone – Got off the beaten path a little … This was one of the most beautiful hikes/fishing trips of the year. You cant beat fishing in the park for its beauty.

Big Hole Grayling, Montana – My first non-stocked grayling on a river.

Big Hole Brown, Montana – This was about the most perfect looking brown of my entire summer. the shape and color of this fish was fantastic. This is will also my first published fly fishing photo, TU chose it for a direct mailer.

Big Hole Guide, Montana – This was my first trip out with Brad Platt ( Anderson and Platt Fly Fishing ), from Dillon … I did website in exchange for float trips/guide service, talk about feeding the addiction. This photo struck me as the archetype of a guide. Observant, focused, and enjoying the entire guiding experience. About 3 minutes after I took the shot he stepped up to me and told my to move my drift out against the bank about 3 feet. BAM .. Fish on.

Snake River Cutt, Wyoming – This was the last fish I caught on the Greys this year and my only fish of the day. They simply were not biting .. The day cold ( October 1st) and the fishing very slow. The only fish I saw all day was this one cut that came up to look at a hopper that I had tried of about 20 minutes.

Fantastic photos, Corey. I especially liked the lead in. Was the 7th (fisheman in foreground, snow covered mountain in back) taken in Canada?

The shot of the Provo, was that near or on the way to Sundance? I was there a couple of years ago. Awesome how beautiful that area is!

It is close to Sundance … I agree, fantastic scenery… Very beautiful. If your ever up this way again feel free to drop me an email and we can hit the river for a day.

    Wow nice pictures!

Are these pictures shot using a SLR or a regular camera?

Thanks! All but the underwater shot were taken with a Canon Digital Rebel. I used my 100mm lens quite a bit this year and just got a 17mm – 55mm which i used for the last shot. The under water shot was taken with a pentax optio.

Great shots Corey! I take it you live in Utah? Never fished in Utah. How is it? I really loved the first picture in your thread. Very cool action shot!

You got to love the Beaverhead and the Big Hole. The ranch I guide for is only an hour or so from both of these rivers. I can’t guide on the Big Hole but do a few trips a year on the Beaverhead. Good stuff!

Yes, I’m in Utah .. The fishing is pretty good. We don’t have the big rivers like Montana or the consistent big fish like on the Beaverhead, but it keeps me going until I can make it up your way! If my job allowed, I’d be your neighbor! I love fishing in Montana, it is everything that you’d imagine it would be. I try to make it up to Montana 3 – 5 times a year … All the rivers in that area are fantastic! I love the Beaverhead and Big Hole, but I think my favorite is the Ruby. I HOPE to do a little hiking/exploring to see how far up that Red Rock I can get this year! Last time I was up Brad (guide) was talking up a spruce moth hatch on the Beaverhead… I scheduled a float to try and hit it. Have you fished it?

The spruce moth hatch is insane and it lasts for a solid 2-3 weeks. The nice thing about fishing them is that you don’t have to have a perfect drift. In fact you will have a lot better results if you give them lots of life and skate them across the water. This is a nice thing when your with rookie clients! 🙂 The other thing about fishing the spruce moth is don’t be afraid to play around with a few patterns. Just make sure they are in a size 10 to 12 and they have lots of white on them.

It’s almost sad for me to say this, but I have lived in western Montana all of me 38 years and I have never fished the Ruby. 🙁 It is on my short list of places to hit this spring so hopefully I will get my chance in 2007!

Sounds like a blast … can’t wait to fish that spruce moth hatch this year! Hopefully, I’ll time it right and be up there for it. You’ll love the ruby … it’s one of
