    I recently saw some photographs which had been edited in photoshop (I’m guessing) to make them appear as though they had been painted.

    That looks like the way to go once you have the photo ready ie. (already edited to look like a painting), but how do you get the painting effect?

    If you are using Photoshop CS4 (I only have CS4 to refer to, but the process should be similar in older editions), choose Filter – Brush Strokes and then the brush you want to use.

    Just jacked around with a trial version of Lightroom and tweeked the exposure, recovery, fill light, blacks – and this popped.
